Subject: Maldives November 20011
Gary,
A few words about our great holiday.
We have had several trips to the Maldives over the past few years, to Merru in the North Atoll which is really nice.
I grabbed some “tourist” fishing trips so had some idea of how good the fishing could be, we have done February before which is the best of the fishing season.
This year we missed out on our February slot – lots going on step daughter’s wedding, house re build etc...
Annabel did some research and found what seemed a perfect holiday with Gary and the Yasawa Princess.
Gary and Cherrill met us at the airport in Male and we picked up the Princess in the anchorage nearby.
Ship was great, lots of character and good mix of guests, Annabel was happy to join in the adventures the ship laid on during the day and I was free to go fishing....
Fishing was superb, we started with 20lb gear expecting Wahoo and Trevally but soon hit into Sailfish- You need to see how fast a sailfish can empty a reel on light gear and full drag to believe it.
Shifted to the “Big guns” Grauvell Game kit and then managed to subdue the third sailfish we hit, Nick holding me to the boat, rod and reel strapped to me.
After a fairly gruelling morning in the deep water outside the reef edge we moved inside the islands and had some less physical but equally exiting fishing on light spinning gear and local made lures.
Groupers, snappers and then Bonito made for an excellent second half of the day.
Back to the Princess for supper and a few beers, met up with Matt and Ed. They spent most of their time up to their chests in the water on sand bars fly fishing- odd to see when we steamed past in “The Africa Queen” in the middle of nowhere in the Indian ocean.
Days went by too quickly, we had more sailfish- I had bruised ribs when one decided on a last run right at the back of the boat. We lost some really big fish along the way.
Second half of the week Nicks lures started working big time, we had a Wahoo day on Saturday, Allen hitting them one after another- (I had my share too).
Really great having such good company and expertise on hand,
Thanks again to
Gary, Cherrill, Nick, all the crew on board esp. Mohamed “the sail fish wrestler” Matt, Ed, Adam and Robin.
Until the next time.............
Peter and Annabel.

Hi Gary
This is a few words regarding the fishing trip.
Just wanted to start by saying a big thank you to yourself and the team for allowing me aboard because I would have hated to miss this opportunity.
It was by far one of the highlights of my holiday. It came with the added bonus of Matt Hayes and Ed Brown also joining us in the morning.
We had a great day fishing. The boat was fantastic and the equipment and staff were great also. I caught 7 Wahoo. The biggest being 18lb + and a Dorado at 8lb. And Pete who was the other person fishing had 7 wahoo and a rainbow runner. We also had the excitement of hooking up with a yellow fin Tuna weighing bout 200lb but sadly it came off.
Really was a fantastic day and one I will remember. Anyone considering going out there to give it a bash I would say to them do it because its an absolute must. And I cant wait to go again next year to do it all again.
Allen.
