Licences

The very mention of fishing licences always seems to start frantic discussion and at a recent talk I did at a fishing club meeting the subject was discussed with great passion. The fact of the matter is that we are in Spain and want to go fishing. It is the requirement of the Spanish authorities that we need a licence to do this in the areas stated by them. Simple…….not really, the problem is that every Region has different licences and rules. In the Valencian Region you are required to hold a Licencia De Pesca for freshwater fishing and fishing from a boat but there is no requirement it seems for a licence to fish from the shore. After much exhaustive research by not only myself but several very helpful RTN readers, especially Peter Tinsley who spent many hours on the case……thank you Peter once again. In the Region De Murcia you are required to hold a Licencia De Pesca for freshwater (Pesca Fluvial), fishing from a boat (Desde Embarca)and fishing from the shore (Desde Tierra). This shore licence also covers the holder nationally. The next question is usually where do I get a licence from? Several options here. One is to go to the offices in either Valencia, Alicante, Murcia or Cartagena. Another is to enquire if your local tackle shop or club can supply them on your behalf for a small charge. The Fishing Club of Puerto De Mazarron can obtain licences on your behalf for a fee - details can be found on my website at www.garysmithfishing.com Pensioners and under fourteens do not pay for the actual licence but are required to have one.
