Freshwater Angling Introduction
Welcome to this new section covering freshwater fishing. In the future I aim to
cover the many aspects of fishing the lakes and rivers in our area and beyond.
Perhaps the greatest gift that angling offers is to be at one with nature. To
take in the wonderful surroundings and watch the array of wildlife present.
Angling is not just about catching fish, it is a chance to relax and focus fully
on this absorbing pastime, letting everyday stresses and worries drift away.
Some of the lakes in the Murcian and Valencian region are spectacular and great
pleasure can be gained from fishing these waters. Before starting out you do
require a licence.

From little acorns grow
.
They are obligatory in Spain and are issued by the authorities of the region
that the waters are located in. If you intend to fish in several different
regions then you must have a licence for each individual region issued by the
respective authority. To obtain a licence for the region of Murcia you must go
to Consejeria Industria y Medio Ambiente . C/ Catedratico Eugenio Ubeda Romero
No 3 Murcia 30008 Phone 968228901 They are open from nine until two. The cost is
around six euros for a year and you will need a copy of your passport, NIE or
Residents card. For the Valencian region you can obtain licences from major
branches of Caja Rural within the region. It may be wise to have two passport
size photographs with you just in case they are asked for. If this is all a
little confusing then our fishing club can obtain the Murcian licence for a
small fee, just contact me via e-mail or phone for details. With your licence
you will receive a pamphlet on do's and don'ts covering minimum sizes, catch
limits, seasons etc.
A worthwhile investment is The Guide To 30Freshwater Fishing Venues On The Costa
Blanca by Peter J. Walkden. This book details directions to the rivers and
lakes, suggesting baits and what fish are present. The book is available from
Round Town News offices.

Relaxing surroundings
A Very Informative Guide
So now we are armed with licences and some knowledge of the lakes and rivers let
us get off and sample the fishing. I am going off to Alfonso XIII first and
cannot wait to get started so gather up your rods and reels, brush the dust off
your tackle box and maybe I will see you there.
