APND Surfcasting Championship 2006 Round 2 Bolnuevo  

Saturday 11^th February saw the second round of this years Fishing Club of Puerto De Mazarron championship take place at Bolnuevo beach.  An outright win by Juan Canovas Jnr of Totana was unexpected by some seasoned competitors but, as I predicted in a special article last year this young man is a star of the future. The competition took place between six and midnight in heavy cloud, then rain, as darkness fell. A difficult year is in store for many of the top ten championship finishers of previous years as many are not figuring in the results……….yet! Consistent scoring is going to be the key factor this year and Puerto De Mazarrón’s Antonio Rebollo has taken an early championship lead with two good scores. Catch weights were up significantly on the first round although there was no explanation for some competitors catching one or two fish and pegs either side catching ten or fifteen. 2005 champion Luigi Mateos was one to suffer this strange phenomenon and finished tenth overall. He now finds himself down in nineteenth position after a no score in round one. A similar story for past champion and first round winner Pedro Martinez. I fared no better finishing fourteenth and am down in eighth place in the championship scores. Now we look forward to the 11^th March a little further down the coast at Canada de Gallego where competition will resume and maybe more upsets in the championship leaderboard.
